Reaching an understanding in conversation presupposes that both partners are ready for it and are trying to recognize the full value of what is alien and opposed them.

Relationships can become such hard work that we can forget the
joys of ever coming together in the first place. Blockages to the
growth and vitality of a committed relationship can come from many
different places. When I work with couples counseling I try to understand
the blockages to growth in each particular relationship and to understand
how each person in the couple relates to the other emotionally, and how each contibutes to the current dynamic.
I try to facilitate a deeper, more understanding connection between
the couple through helping them gain awareness of how they relate
to each other and what they do to create their current dynamic.
Ideally, couples counseling results in an atmosphere where the couple
can be open to new growth and new ways of being with each other.
